That's awesome. I think the same can be said of real life healers as well -- those who understand what goes into nurturing roles are often more appreciative of their support.

In Diablo 3, the closest thing to a healing role is a Monk, which I always use when duoing with my fiance, Roland. Fortunately, Blizzard made THAT healing role super easy... At least, so far, in Normal mode. ;)

After spending years out of gaming I returned to gaming with MMORPGs but I've always been reluctant to play both tanks and healers because I didn't want to fail. I didn't want to do it wrong. I didn't want to be shouted at for screwing up. So my mains were both DPS, mage for PvE and rogue for PvP.

Then not that long ago I finally levelled a tank. She's a gnome warrior just because its funny having a gnome warrior with pink hair as a tank. Not far behind is a priest healer. Playing them almost side by side gives me a better understanding in how each role affects the other.

I've always had an appreciation of healers. After tanking I have more of one. After an instance I always make a point of both thanking the healer specifically and giving them an appreciative virtual hug.

Good points. I do think the fringes deserve some part in the conversation, but should be kept at the fringes, and I would ask them to moderate their tone. For many, issues such as rape are, by necessity, an emotional issue. Men often feel attacked for something they've not done, and women, especially those who are survivors, have a lot of PTSD triggers and are working through those in a public forum.

In the past, feminism has had to be extreme to get past the filters society has put into place. My hope is that now with technology, and modern culture being more fluid, feminists and other civil rights proponents can be heard without being extreme.

Great article with great points. As a girl, it saddens me to see feminism being set back by those on the fringe. Women are still not being treated as equal, and (unfortunately) the prevailing view of feminism is the crazy 'feminazis' like the ones freaking out over the comic strip. Yes, the second one was kind of rubbing salt in the wound, and seemed a bit callous...but I wonder if that's more from internet culture than 'rape culture.'

You're asking us to use persuasion rather than boycotting, and I think that's a lovely way to view a lot of things.

Completely ignoring a problem doesn't make it go away. Women and men will still be raped even if the word, and all references to it, were wiped from existence.

The only way to address issues in society is to have a calm, rational conversation about them. Those on the fringe for either side (of any argument) deserve no part in the conversation.

I'm late for the watching of this film, so apologies if the river of thought has already run dry on this account. However, I feel I must comment as this film immediately struck me on a very deep emotional level, which at first I was rather baffled by. I am so thankful that I found this site. The article and comments have been fantastic reading and have justified some of the intensity of my emotional response to some degree.

I am a hard working young woman that works in an extremely male dominated job. After coming home from a hard day at work, out of pure curiosity, I put this film on. After viewing, I find myself sitting here dumbfounded and wondering at the levels upon levels of meaning that I discovered in the film. More interestingly were the actual tears I shed over some of the issues that I saw in the film. I now know it was not for the film I cried, but for the issues that came up from the powerful imagery within the film.

I have read a good deal of the comments on this site, I believe the main article puts it best though. What I do not think anyone so far has commented on is the beauty in the imagery of the girls relationships - their camaraderie. For me, this was the most positive message that came through. I think now, I may have been weeping for what I do not have at the moment in my job.

I am amazed that a film like this, by this particular director, has provoked such a reaction from me, and I will seek to learn more about some of the issues and the wonderful ideas I have discovered on this site. The adventure continues...
